If you are reading this blog, I’d like to meet you. (Actually, even if you’re not reading this blog, I’d still like to meet you.) I would like to learn from you, understand your world-view and metaphysics, and what your opinions are about a couple of specific things. I will only ask questions, I will refrain from sharing my opinion unasked. Of course, the questions I ask are likely to illustrate how I think. If you dislike certain questions, let me know, and I will refrain from asking them. (Of course, I will try to answer any questions you have for me as honestly as I can.)
I am especially interested in meeting people in leadership positions at any religious organisation, or other people taking their religion very seriously. I seek first to understand, with the intention to try to build bridges and promote mutual understanding at a later date.
The rest of this post deals with extended travel-through-South-Africa holiday plans.
I have not yet made any travel plans, there are a number of things limiting my movement. The first is a little “consulting” job that is currently on hold, but likely to have a pseudo-deadline before the first weekend of January. The second is a thesis defence at the end of January or the beginning of February. The third is the requirement for a working laptop while travelling - my laptop died on me yesterday. Ugh. Dead as a doornail. I will take it to the service centre, hoping they might be able to preform a resurrection miracle on it. The only question is whether they might have closed until next year. I will try to find out on Monday. The alternative: buy a new laptop soon, and sell the old one once it’s fixed. (Any recommendations where/what to buy? I run Ubuntu.) But I digress…
I have reasons to be in the Hartenbos / Mossel Bay area before the end of the year - immediate family will be there, amongst other things). I have reasons to be in the same area shortly after New Year’s - aunt/uncle/cousins will be there, and I said I would visit, either there or in Graaff-Reinett. Other way-points under consideration so far include Bloemfontein, Durban, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Nelspruit.
If I can meet you, let me know where, and possibly when (for the next few months). Or better: just leave a comment, then I will contact you and we can make some plans. That way you can protect your anonymity. (Highly recommended.)
